Denver Landmark Preservation Commission - 2018

Trained as a Preservation Architect, Doug Walter worked for Larimer Square and the National Park Service, before starting his own practice in 1979. He has completed dozens of successful projects in historic districts. His historical background helps him design compatible additions to any home, from 1898 Victorians to 1998 McMansions.

His sensitive additions to historic homes have earned him two awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and several awards from Historic Denver, as well as a Mayor’s Design Award in 2014 for an addition in Country Club that ties a classical brick home to it’s carriage house, replicating material, mass, and details to tie them together.

Doug also served as a Denver Landmarks Preservation Commissioner from 2015 to 2018, and speaks frequently on preservation, architectural compatibility, and designing additions that "fit", no matter what the original style.

Doug took all my wants, needs, and desires and molded them into the finest Victorian second story in the city of Denver! He is very accessible and very easy to communicate with. He truly cares about the end product of both the home and the relationship with his clients
